The CBI is the UK's premier business organisation and provides a voice for firms at a regional, national and international level to government policymakers. The CBI Conference is one of the UK's highest profile businesses conferences, and Protech Comms were delighted to provide data connectivity and security services for the 2017 event.
1,200 delegates came together to discuss how businesses can prepare, respond and capitalise on two of the critical challenges facing the UK economy, that of globalisation and automation. CBI president, Paul Drechsler opened the conference, calling on politicians to put aside their differences and work together on a strategic plan for Brexit.
The political keynotes began with a speech from the Prime Minister, Teresa May who was keen to offer her vision for a strong Britain built on fair competitive markets.
The leader of the opposition, Jeremy Corbyn, also indicated a desire for business and the Labour Party to work together. He highlighted Industrial Strategy, securing a Brexit transition deal and increasing investment as priorities.
With so many political and business leaders in attendance, security considerations were paramount. Protech Comms provided data connectivity services for the event, running data streams through our datacenter filtering to actively identify, predict and react to attacks as they developed.
Before the event, we compiled a timetable of risk based upon the speaker's profile to consider the threat of potential attack on systems to either disrupt or intercept streams. From this risk-based timetable, we allocated resources to ensure that underlying technical demands were not only met but we also had extra capacity in reserve.
Our team of dedicated engineers ensured that the CBI conference went smoothly and real-time monitoring of threats allowed the team to respond appropriately throughout the day.
Overall the raw stats at the end of the day were 27,911 attack attempts actively blocked. 32% were from China, 28% Russia, 14% US, 26% other. In total, we filtered over 794 million connections during the support period.
